I have an issue with rehearsal marks (bar numbers) in one player in one flow which I cannot solve.
I’m working on a project where the composer has used different marks per movement (letters, numbers, bar numbers). The last (fourth) movement/flow has bar numbers as rehearsal marks. In the score and every other instrument there is no problem with showing them, but just for the solo viola bar numbers are not shown in this last flow. If I change the marks to letters or numbers they look fine, but not as bar numbers. Here are pics form the score and the solo viola part:
Are there local time signatures in the Viola part in the last flow? There is a long standing issue that Dorico can’t display bar number rehearsal marks for parts that have local time signatures.
If there are, and they were created inadvertedly, you can delete them and the rehearsal marks should reappear. If you do need local time signatures, you’d have to look at a workaround.
If you can’t locate it, you’ll probably get a solution if you upload the project file here, if that’s possible. If you create a copy you can delete everything except for the Viola player in that one flow.
You were right, there was one bar where a 2/4 in the viola goes against the 6/8 of the orchestra. When I delete the TS the rehearsal marks show correctly. So, according to the post you quoted there is no solution. I’ll need to put a fake TS and use hidden duplets to solve my issue. Thank you very much, you’ve been very helpful. One more thing to add to my list of Dorico bugs
Yeah I am not very well versed in polymeter in Dorico but I had to do it recently. Indeed I chose the fake time sig with hidden tuplets method because of this issue.
Another option could be to change the rehearsal mark sequence to Numbers in the properties panel and then enter the actual bar number in the Index. Since you only have to do it for one player, that might be quicker depending on how many rehearsal marks you have. The upside of that method is you can leave the time sigs intact.
