Just bought Dorico 6 pro having trouble connecting it to my ipad

Hi! I am a former finale user and made the switch to Dorico after a lot of research. I am wondering what I need to do to get my ipad registered under my purchase. I click through the already purchased (restore purchase) icon and nothing happens. I signed in using the email connected to my account. What am I missing?

Thanks!

I think the iPad license is separate from Dorico Pro 6, not included.
If you bought the iPad version, see the thread below. There is a Free Dorico for iPad version, but limited to only two instruments, I think.

Jesper

"Dorico is free to use, allowing you to write for ensembles of one or two players (such as solo guitar, voice and piano, etc.). Register with your free Steinberg ID to increase the player limit to four, allowing you to write for ensembles like string or wind quartet, or SATB choir. If you want to take your composition and arranging to the next level, you can buy an optional subscription to unlock more features and power: write for ensembles of any size, and gain access to Engrave mode, allowing you to make graphical tweaks to individual items anywhere in your project. "

Ahh I was worried about that. That is a little disappointing considering it is supposed be able to be used on 3 devices. I wont be paying for a subscription after paying for the product.

Thanks!

3 computers, that is. Sorry.

Jesper

Its really not that big of deal but I think it is an oversight on Steinberg’s end. I’ll just be using the computer version. Thanks for the reply Jesper.

ā€œEntitle(d)ā€ has me cackling. Dorico pro is $600 I think it should include the ipad version.

Not an oversight, instead a very simple technical reason:
Steinberg can not sell you things via Appleā€˜s app store.
There are three things they can do via the Apple app store:

  1. offer a free version
  2. offer a subscription model
  3. offer a lifetime payed version

Appleā€˜s infrastructure does not allow any other ways of distributing software to their iOS and iPadOS devices.
To be fair, Steinberg gives you all three possible choices.

Yes, and similar programs/apps give you a download code for phones or ipads when you make a purchase. There are solutions.

Xadie, that is interesting to hear. Can you show us an example?
I actually doubt that this is possible, because Apple wants to keep total control over what is downloaded through their App Store and ends up on their devices. The App Stores for iOS and iPadOS are much more rigid than the one for macOS itself.
I know on the desktop computers there are solutions, but not on the mobile OS-systems. Here each and every application has to go through Apple’s routines before they give an approval.
Are you sure you are not mixing it up with Android apps?

There is a solution. An app can require a login to unlock the full range of functionality. An (paid) account can usually be set up in either the app or on a website. This is a very common practise, that allows you to use the app/service on multiple platforms. Pianoteq is an excellent example of this approach.

PS: Apple doesn’t like this approach for obvious reasons.
