How about a feature that allows us to write a really short description , a personal tag, behind all those fancy plugin names in the plugin manager. Often you can not decifer what it actually is/does and the slots they’ve been put in by Nuendo are often not correct. Mind you, the personal plugin collection folder is not the way I want to go.
Agree, some kinda tag system will be great!
Nuendo uses the categorization that the vendor is applying.
I do miss the custom folders we could create for VST 2 plugins. Seems like there isn’t as much organizational flexibility with VST 3.
If you don’t know what a plug-in, is by name, then one could argue it needs to be removed.
I don’t know how many versions of synths and sample players I have but I only use the few that I need and the rest just reside in the folders they were originally installed in.
VST3 plug-in files, can be deleted manually but there may be installation information that cannot be removed, without an uninstaller or cleaner but what I would suggest needs to happen prior to a tagging system being developed, is to have file path locations shown in the VST plug-in manager and possibly have the ability to uninstall plug-in’s from there but that would likely require a change to the specification.
If you buy, e.g., a new collection, like Mega XXL of Plugin Society then you get a bunch of 200+ Plugs from 40+ brands you can not remember all of them well enough fast. So, a list with name, brand, function and maybe their licence code would be very hand. Also, in case of moving to a new DAW PC. Throwing plugs out just because you haven’t used them, yet, is not an option . Also, some are by nature rarely used.
If you want to slim down to your goto plugs then this personal plugin folder function comes in handy. Just don’t forget to set it back or tell other users you’re running on a privat collection. They might otherwise search their behinds off to find listed plugs they can’t place in a project.
