Kerning of accidentals

This (IIRC) is the default

It feels a bit distant so with

I get

but it also causes

which is too much.

Is manual kerning the only option right now?

Hi @Mats_Frendahl, with Dorico defaults I have this:

And you can set extreme values (here 99%, default is 60% for both) for these Engraving Options>Accidentals>Kerning (even if I don’t understand exactly how they works, despite their description in the dialogue  :

Thanks @Christian_R

Your tigther fit is due to the automatic shortening of ledger lines.

Here, this option has no (major) impact on the ledger lines, but gives a much nicer fit.

I wish it could do the same with the “Do not adjust…”. I don’t use the Shorten setting. A “FR”.

The stacking I’m content with.

Found another ‘case’ where there could be improvement

Without shortening:

Note the inconsistent placement of the top b.

With shortening

Now the 2nd chord b is too close compared to the 1st chord, and the natural sign is way too close (IMO).

IMO, the 1st chord in the top image is perfect, and the 2nd chord should look the same when using “non-shorten” ledger lines.
