Kerning problem with Chord Symbols

Now I’m working on chord symbols’ appearance editing with Dorico Pro 6 Version 6.0.0.6026 and see some weird behavior, would appreciate someone’s suggestions.

Yesterday I edited chord symbols with the Project Default Chord Symbol Appearances dialog and create a file attached “250507_Finale27_ChordSuffix.dorico”. When I opened this file on macOS 14.7 today, I see some tension kerning is broken while it has no problem on Windows 11.

250507_Finale27_ChordSuffix.dorico (945.4 KB)

Unfortunately I don’t remember what I had done (or had not) on this file today. But anyway I found it can be fixed one by one by changing the broken tension’s scale from current 50% to 51% or 49% in the Project Default Chord Symbol Appearances dialog.

When a root has an accidental you need to take an another way; changing Chord Symbols Music Text Font size in the Library menu > Font Styles. This can fix everything at a time.

These ways could work for personal projects but because you can never go back to the original size, when the symbol’s exact size is specified by clients it could be difficult to fix this problem. It would be great if there is a way to avoid it.

This is a video which shows what I see.

I’d appreciate it if you could give me suggestions, thank you very much in advance.

Try to set Default Music Text Font to Finale Maestro, see below:

By the way, I’m curious, how did you manage to import all those chord suffixes from Finale v27? Was it through XML export? Thanks !

Taro, I spent some time this afternoon looking at your project and wasn’t able to get to the bottom of the problem myself, but I’ve asked one of my colleagues to take a closer look tomorrow. It definitely looks like a bug to me, rather than to anything you’ve done wrong.

Although I know Nor is trying to help, I wouldn’t suggest making the change he proposes, as I don’t believe it will have any benefit in your project.

Once I have more information, I’ll report back.

Thanks Nor, setting the Default Music Text Font to Finale Maestro fixes the problem.

Actually this project is made from scratch by Dorico Pro 6, didn’t import MusicXML or so. Now I’m testing if Dorico can reproduce Finale v27 Japanese version’s chord suffix library all by itself. (There is no mystery, sorry for the boring answer  )

Thanks Daniel, I like D6’s new feature regarding the chord symbols, which I believe is one of long-awaited improvements for those who is switching from Finale. I hope we could find the solution soon.
