Key command for dotted note double-click

I reassigned my note-value entry keys to Finale values (q=5 etc.) but now double-clicking the note value does not produce a dotted note. Is there a key command for getting the dotted note feature back? I’ve searched help, manual, and forums but just keep getting info on how to create double-dotted notes. I know many suggest getting used to Dorico q=6 but I’ve been a Finale user since 1988 ( groundfloor customer with a serial number of 000973) so that’s a lot of years of q=5 under my fingers!

Side note - given reading many posts/comments about Finale/Dorico transition I was very anxious about diving into Dorico with September deadlines for 20 arrangements for 35-piece studio orchestra but 3 weeks in am absolutely loving Dorico. Watched several tutorials and took notes for several days and then spent half of the first week on Google, open beside Dorico, and now am still finding great things Dorico can do. No looking back for this convert and thanks to everyone for all the advice solutions on this forum.

I also have my duration keys remapped, and double tapping for a dotted note works fine for me.

What do you have these set to?

I have a hunch it may not work as expected if you don’t have these settings.

Thanks, I have the default settings as in the pic and tried every other combination but still 2 quarters in a row no matter how fast I try to click them. Tried some variations in Mac preferences for keyboard key repeat rate settings too and no difference as well. I’m wondering if the original key command included the dotted note double-click feature but can’t find specific info about that. Thanks anyways!

The fact that you’re getting two quarters implies that you’ve got pitch before duration on – otherwise, you wouldn’t get any notes entered at all when you press a duration key (since Dorico would be waiting for the pitch).

Do you have this button highlighted when you’re entering notes?

If this button is blue, then you’ve got pitch before duration on.

Note that the settings in Preferences only indicate your defaults – you can change from your default by activating/deactivating this button.

Thank you - that did it! I’ve been at Dorico for a little over 2 weeks now and had just left that on prior to and after re-assigning the keys. That makes sense it overrides the default setting. Thanks!
