Key command to see a what the printed page looks like?

Is there a key command one can press/hold to toggle to the page viewed the way it will look as a pdf, so black notes with a white background and nothing else present except what is printed/exported?

I often miss collisions when in the program and only see them when double checking my exported parts, and I would love to have a way to avoid leaving the program for this essential step.

Yes, I think there is:

Procedure

  • Press and hold \ (Windows) or ` (macOS).

Thanks, doesn’t get a white background but is good enough for me!

Looking at the pages in Print view will show you black on white, as printed.

that requires back and forth, I am looking for something that allows me to see the printed page immediately to fix mistakes right away, without going elswhere. Plus scrolling in the print mode is a nightmare and you can’t zoom (or i havent figured it out)

It says “All non-printing elements in the current layout are hidden until you release the key command. Printing elements appear as they will when printed/exported.”

Strangely if I hold it for more than 2 seconds and release it becomes “permanent” and I have to press it again to go back to the normal mode.

I haven’t seen that reported before – although it has been requested!

I can’t replicate that myself (I’m on Windows) but it would actually be really nice if this was the designed behavior.

I guess the bug is a feature! it only does it in write mode, not in engrave (where it would be more useful), and I am on version 5.1, because my computer is old.

I think @Christian_R once suggested a workaround for this, using a special shortcut — can’t remember what it was exactly!

Edit: found!

If I remember correctly it involved adding a modifier key (e.g. Shift+\) and then releasing the modifier first before releasing the \ key edit: the other way around, you found it. That would also keep it sticky.

Hold the key, press and hold Shift, release the key, release Shift.

That’s it! I guess I have clumsy fingers and was naturally doing it…
