Key Editor completely Broken

I am lost here, opened Cubase today, started a new track, inserted an instrument and created a midi file in the project window , opened the key editor, and its just all over the place. It’s not showing the correct size of midi clip, I cannot edit anything in the area I created the midi clip, its only showing the selectors range. Also, that show tracks was on by default, why did that get changed ? How can I reset the key editor back to the way it was prior ?

Forget it, its all about the crappy colour scheme. When will this ever get updated to look at least semi decent. Literally cannot see anything on a 1080p with such dark small colours and fonts.

Are you referring to the change that came with update 15.0.20, in which the background of the selected midi part (under the loop-cycle ruler) is now almost impossible to see? (because the contrast is now nearly non-existent, with only the black-key lines being slightly darker than the surrounding midi area) Because if you are, I hate that too! People have been complaining about that since it happened, but apparently Steinberg considers that a bug fix (not sure what the bug was). It has definitely slowed down my workflow.

Yeah that was it. Took me a while to work out how to disable it. Why on earth was that enabled by default ? Make me aware of the option but do NOT change it to suit yourselves. Its a pointless thing tbh. Caused me more issues than was needed.

How did you disable this? Please let me know!

In the key editor, top right hand corner, setup window layout, and uncheck Tracks.

Not sure what you mean?

That’s what I am seeing, which Cubase version do you have ? Mines the latest V15 Pro

I think chimpazilla shows the lower Zone keyeditor and Levzi shows the keyeditor in its own window

Yep you are right there, im opening the key editor in it’s own window. I don’t use the lower view at all, never have.

You are right, I use the lower zone, so I popped it out and unchecked Tracks, but that does not change the midi-part contrast (under the loop-cycle ruler), so I suspect we aren’t talking about the same thing. If I understand correctly, this new background contrast (in Cubase 15.0.20) is some kind of bug fix, (Martin stated that it is meant for the project window and key editor to have the same behavior under the loop-cycle ruler) and not something we can toggle on and off.

I´m using a very light Color-scheme for the editor and I think it offers a pretty good overview of what´s going on:

Yeah I think you are right.

Yeah I had to change mine, its at least readble now

Yes I did something similar, but I ended up mid-gray as I felt that the dark and light ends of the spectrum didn’t offer these old eyes enough visibility. Either way, I am having to crane my face toward my screen to see if my midi notes are at the beginning and end of the midi part, and I hate that maximally!!! I miss the black background so much. I can NOT understand what this was a bug fix for, they shouldn’t have “fixed” it, as this contrast thing was not broke!

I absolutely hate the way the key editor looks, I am hoping and praying they come up with more options to edit the way it looks, or a whole bunch of “presets” to allow it to be easier on the eye. It’s taken me multiple attempts to even get it remotely usable. What a mess.
