You can also set the default behaviour for hairpins to stop before barlines if you prefer: this is done on the Dynamics page of Engraving Options.

@Rob Yes. The 2.2.10 F-shortcut is a real timesaver. I wrote my comment before I recognized the new (autosave! yehaw!) patch.
