I just want to make sure you guys aren’t missing the custom shortcuts that Janus described in post #4 above. Seems easier than the scripting method to me.
Seems easier to me too! Didn’t miss that (and I already use it), that whole scripting method for me isn’t worth the hassle. But OP’s request was for the ability to assign a single keystroke to a PT without using the popover
This thread is over a year old, but just in case anyone comes across this, I wanted to make sure that everyone knows that, whether or not it was possible in October 2024, it is absolutely possible now – at least in Dorico Pro 6.1 – to add key commands to individual playing techniques [edit to add: without scripting].
In the Key Commands section of Preferences, search for the playing technique you want. It will filter to it, but you will just show “Note Input”. You’ll have to click to expand each level until you actually get to the technique itself. Once you get to the technique, you can assign a key command to it which will be available immediately after you apply the new key command.
(Note that even though it allows you to assign Jump Bar aliases to these, as well, I have not had success with those aliases actually working, even after restarting Dorico, so I’m not sure what’s up with that. I can’t seem to figure out how to access playing techniques from the Jump Bar. I’m probably missing something simple…)
This was added in v6. And just as with key commands for other things, like paragraph styles, it only works for factory playing techniques or custom techniques saved as default (with the star button). You can’t define a key command for a custom playing technique that’s only defined in the current project.
Ah, good to know. I did only try it with one that I saved as a default, so didn’t realize that, although it makes perfect sense since key commands exist outside of project scope.
