I’m setting up my sample library, and creating some Playback Templates and Expression Maps.
I have my brass section set up so that their open sound is in Channel 1, and con sord. is in Channel 2 (or 3/4, 5/6, etc.)
I have an Add-On setup so that when they play con sord. there is a Relative Channel Change (1); as an off-event, there is a Relative Channel Change (0)—this works beautifully.
Within these two channels, their various articulations (staccato, legato, normale) are changed through Keyswitching—this is not so good.
When they are playing con sord. the Keyswitching effect does not carry over to Channel 2, it remains in Channel 1.
Is there a known solution?
Instead of having an Add-on switch for the Muted playback technique, I think you need to create Base switches for Muted, Muted + Staccato, Legato + Muted, etc. with the Relative channel changes as On and Off events in each of these Base switches along with the appropriate keyswitches.
Brilliant, that works beautifully!
For reference to anyone who stumbles on this in the future (or me, when I forget tomorrow): make sure the Relative Channel Change happens before the keyswitch, and that you set an Off Event to the original channel.
Also @Dorico, if there’s some way to make a Relative Channel Change work with keyswitches in the future that would be amazing.
John’s solution works but it does mean every Base Switch has to be duplicated. Would save a lot of work if con sord. worked as an Add-On with a Relative Channel Change.
