I’m working on a large piece at the moment and I encountered a little problem (which is probably my fault): a bass-harp-sound is produced irregularly during playback. It doesn’t correspond with any note in the score and neither with any rhythm. My guess is, that it might be a remnant of key switches which are left from another harp. The harp was removed and deleted and I selected another one (the Synchronized VSL Harp 2) with the correct expression map. Nevertheless, the old key switches are still being played and I don’t know how to remove them.
Is there any way to see them and/or to remove them? If necessary I can send along my Dorico file.
I checked and I can see key switches everywhere, but I don’t know where the sound is coming from. It seems to be A0, but no instruments shows this one in the key editor.
I could check the expression map as well, but that would imply that I know which instrument is causing this.
On the mixer there is an “Unused” button that you may toggle on, it will show all the hidden channels that normally don’t show… you may find the culprit there ?
You should be able to identify which instrument is causing the stray key switches: play back the affected passage and mute each output in turn, until you isolate the one responsible for the unwanted notes. Once you’ve found which instrument is responsible, it should be reasonably simple to determine how to fix it – as you’ve already suggested, reviewing the expression map should be instructive.
Finally I was able to detect the real source of the ‘key switch issue’. Thanks to your support and suggestions. You’ve put me on the right track to isolate the cause and delete it.
The culprit was a VSL Synch. Harp instance that was wrongly assigned to the Trombone 2. (The trombone already had its instrument in another Halion Sonic instance, but was -I don’t know how - assigned to a VSL Synchron player as well.) The latter was responsible for the key switch sounding in a trombone instance…
