Kick Drum over-modulating.

I have cubase artist 6 and I use superior drummer 2 with it. When I map out drums I find that the kick drum is way too overpowering and creates a distorted crackling type sound. When I mix down the drums to an mp3 and listen outside of cubase it’s totally fine.

All of the other drums come through my monitors sounding ok.

Any ideas as to why this is happening and how I might be able to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Is your master fader level going well into the red! then you could be overloading your converter and getting a crackle from that.

The clipping would also happen after mixdown then right?

Not necessarily as the signal will be brick walled at 0dB (unless he mixed down at 32float and plays back from a 32float capable player at unity) also any other playback device has probably some gain reduction (volume control) ie WMP or an MP3 player.

What I’m saying is that the crackling could be the D/A complaining by extreme level rather than clipping due to flattening of the peaks.
