I exported a project from Finale to musicxml and imported it into Dorico. On the Drum Set part, playback is playing a hi-hat in place of where the kick drum is notated even though it shows “K. Dr. 2” when I select a note on the kick drum line. I’m guessing that somewhere is a setting that I need to change so that “K. Dr. 2” plays the kick drum sound instead of hi hat…?
Dorico has no way to know what instruments are included in the xml drum kit, so it will apply its own default.
That makes sense to me. So I’m assuming that there is a setting within Dorico where - once the musicxml file is imported - I can change it so that the Dorico project maps K. Dr. 2 to the Kick Drum sound…? That’s what I’m trying to find out. If that’s not possible then importing a musicxml file into Dorico is worthless, sounds like I’d just have to redo the entire project from scratch so that I get the kick drum where it belongs.

Another approach would be to use the Edit Percussion Kit dialog, accessed via the Players panel in Setup mode, and remove the “Kick Drum 1” instrument from the kit, then use Change Instrument to change “Kick Drum 2” from whatever kind of drum it is into a regular kick drum. That should retain all the existing notes that are written on that drum, and allow it to play back.
Ok - I’m probably not interpreting what you’re telling me correctly. I bring up the dialog, select Kick Drum 1 and press the Delete key, and it deletes the entire Drum Set part on the score regardless of whether I select “Delete Player and Part Layouts” or “Delete Player Only” - I don’t understand why clicking on the specific Kick Drum 1 part thinks I mean to delete the entire Drum Set part off of the score.
