Kontakt & Halion became unusable for me

I’m dealing with 3 major problems.

  1. Whenever I open up Halion 7, it gives me this error message. I suppose Halion doesn’t get along with my Nektar Impact LX25 keyboard. (edit: the keyboard is updated but that does not eliminate the problem) - edit: first problem has been fixed

  2. Kontakt 8 is slow to close. And when I say slow, I mean like a minute or so, making me not want to use any of those libraries either. I have done multiple batch resaves and I’m running the content from a very fast ssd.

  3. Sometimes Waves plugins freeze Cubase when I open them up. On a very irregular basis. Mostly they work. This is new in Cubase 15 for me. All my waves plugins are version 14 or newer.

I have Cubase 15 with Windows on a Lenovo Legion laptop using a Clarett Focusrite. No usb hub and I always have the laptop running in performance mode, mindful of the buffer sizes, with the laptop plugged in.

I’m not sure what is causing those issues but I have pretty much stopped using Halion and Kontakt, mostly using Nexus for sounds.

If anyone has a possible fix, please let me know. I’m hoping I just have some wrong settings or that there is an easy fix or an update could stop those problems from coming up.

The 1st issue is related to the MIDI Remote. What kind of script do you use?

I’m using the factory script that came with the keyboard. And I have it updated to the latest driver.

I would send the log to Nektar. There must be a big in the script.

Ik you remove or disable the script and use the nectar as a plain midi device/keyboard do the issues disapear?

I already sent the script to Nektar. Let’s see what they can do about it.

I don’t want to disable the regular script because it’s nicely integrated. The issue only comes up with Halion.

Hi Seebas,

Have you checked the MIDI Remote tab I(Bottom of main screen) for how many instances of the Nektar Impact it shows? If there is more than one, delete all but one and save the project.

ok, so Halion seems to be working again with the LX25, after disabling about 20 instances of ghost instruments, as you suggested. Thank you. However, Kontakt 8 is still extremely slow to close, making it unusable for me.

edit: Waves just made Cubase freeze again today. It even went into a green screen reboot when I force closed Cubase, which is the only way to do anything at that point. This time it happened when I opened the L4 Limiter.

If anyone has an idea how to fix Kontakt 8, other than a batch resave or a reinstall, please let me know. I tried those options, they yielded no positive results.

10-20 seconds of closing Kontakt is unbearable for a good work flow.

I hope NI will address this problem. Not sure if Steinberg has anything to do with it.
