I wrote a song for solo strings and string bass. When I play it back, there is a lag. It’s like the pizzicato bass is on the beat and the legato melody is lagging behind slightly. Enough to drive me crazy! This happens with all of the songs I write with Dorico 5. I am using a violin, viola, cello section sound. When I write something with solo instruments there is no lag at all. Its has been so bad that I have done several pieces over. It will just drive you crazy!! I have tried reverb settings.
What setting am I missing ? I am a Finale convert for about the last 5 months.
Thanks in advance.
Bob
Some string sounds are designed (at least in default mode) to fade in, Other have a more aggressive attack. If one tries to combine “fade-in” strings with a pizz bass, one is of course likely to have trouble.
Hi Bob,
what if you change all players to a piano sound, is the timing of the playback correct then?
That would prove that the used sounds are the problem and not Dorico’s event timing.
Hello
The lag only happens with a violin, viola, or cello section. With single player violin etc. it is fine.
Solo strings are played by HSO, while string sections are played by Iconica Sketch. Those are very different libraries, and thus have very different behavior. Have you tried NotePerformer? It’s a great tool if you want to proofread (by ear) your scores, this is the kind of problem you won’t experience with that tool.
But then it must be the attack phase of the section players sounds
