Never done much multitakeVersion/Lane editing before, but I recently embarked on an ADR Project. Now this project is not a money making effort … more an exploration by me, so I didn’t do all the script breakdown/ section marking prep I believe is done for a proper ADR session and perhaps my question is ‘dealt with’ going that way. Let me know if so please!
So with talent on cans, we just loop recorded using the edited video track ( ie awful audio ) as a reference and the video playback as a visual cue. Down and dirty.
Each take/section piled up as lanes in the timeline … 7 or 8 for each.
Afterwards I dropped the lanes down and comped the best bits of the new dialog using the comp editor tools. Nice.
Now, I hide the lanes and see what looks like a single event in the time line.
Now comes the mix and finessing of timing . This means I regularly have to split the Comped event … and occasionally trim, nudge sections.
My question is whether I can Trim/Nudge these slices without revealing the other takes beneath. Is there a modifier key that splits and trims and nudges ALL the lanes hidden under the comped event as I edit it?
I suspect that it will be suggested to render the Comped event … but I want all the other takes in place if my ‘director’ asks we change things up after my pass ( not that that ever happens …hahaha)
Put another way, I want the Comped event to behave like it was a single take and if I trim , split, nudge leave empty space rather than reveal content underneath.
Am I holding it all wrong?
Thanks
