So, I’m confused if this is possible, and I’m not sure if the AI is the best advisor on this topic.
When working with audio tracks, you apparently get something called “lanes” that lets you see previously recorded takes stacked vertically.
And the same goes with MIDI tracks, I assume?
But what about instrument tracks?
According to ChatGPT “Cubase Ultimate Assistant” this is not possible on instrument tracks?
Here is my settings for MIDI Record Modes. And right now, when recording a short loop, every time it loops, it stacks midi events on top of each other. Not vertically, but literally on top of each other.
Your settings are fine. To see the lanes, right-click on the Instrument track and make sure Lane Display Type is visible. When you’re recording with Lanes selected, it will show each take on a lane, instead of showing them stacked.
Instrument Tracks behave like MIDI Tracks with regard to MIDI Recording Modes. You can think of an Instrument Track as a MIDI Track with an integrated VSTi Sound Generator.
Look in MIDI Record Modes for an explanation of the different MIDI Cycle Record Modes.
But what worked for me was clicking the Show Lanes button, which was hidden for me, initially. I dragged the border - between the tracks and the project window - further to the right, and there it was. Thanks!
Nice, simple trick.
Any tips on how to manage the lanes, once I recorded a few? What are the usual workflow steps when you record a few takes and you want to keep the favorite one? Right click it and “Create Tracks from Lanes”?
