Laptop for mixing/editing only...do I need an interface?

Sorry I’m sure it’s a noob question…I’ve been desktop only for 12+ years now.

If I take a laptop with me to do some mixing/editing around town, do I need an interface? Is the onboard audio adequate with some decent monitoring speakers and/or high-end headphones plugged in (HD-650)?

I know I would need an interface for recording…just wondering about OUPUT on high-end or mid-level laptops.

THANKS!

A better audio interface primarily accounts for lower latency and better inputs.
Since neither of these are of a concern for mixing/editing you should be fine.

However, the outputs will be on a stereo minijack which is not ideal for connecting high end monitors. Headphones should work as long as the impedance isn’t too high.
