Large CPU spikes on activated instrument (VSTi) channels

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working with Cubase 12 and noticed the performance meter spiking every time I select an instrument channel. Especially the plugins from Arturia are acting very jittery.

Specs: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X / Radeon RX 6700 XT / Windows 10 / RME Fireface 800 (buffer size 128)

Question: Has this been resolved in Cubase 13?

Cheers,
Rob

Hi Rob,

I too run Cubase 12 on Windows 10 and are not experiencing the issues you describe. Therefor, I don’t believe the issues lies with Cubase. Have you tried troubleshooting these spikes and what you perceive as jitter? The first thing I would do is making sure all my drivers and BIOS is up to date and then run LatencyMon and see what that tells me.

Hi Rob,

Is the RME driver compatible with Windows 10?
Can you change the buffersize to 512 or even 1024?
Just to see what happens.

TY mlib, i just ran latencymon … system seems to be OK:
Your system appears to be suitable for handling real-time audio and other tasks without dropouts.
I disabled the win10 pagefile, that made a big difference. Thanks for the advice
cheers, Rob

Hi TwanV,
Changing the buffersize makes a huge difference. @512 samples the spikes are totally gone, but that’s not the solution. I use 128 samples buffersize for over 20 years
Thanks anyway,
Rob
