Large expression maps and speed of Dorico

Hi,

Somewhere, Daniel should have warned that the larger an expression map, the slower Dorico can run in some operations.

I’m adding the recently-added FX articulations to my (already huge) map for VSL’s Duality Strings, so I can’t image how this will impact on my everyday life…

I’m open to hints for workarounds, or just reassuring words saying that the Silicon Mac that will sooner or later come here will solve all the issues!

I’m quite confident I have read something along those lines, especially about the third party expression maps sold for the ancient vsl products (prior synchron).
Curious about Silicon too.

How large?

Still working on it, so it’s not easy to say. By estimating some use of add-on techniques, it may end up to be some 700 items.

Yes, there was a thread on this. Apparently Dorico has to check the entire set of playback techniques in the map to find the best fit for the current combination of playing techniques. With lots of instruments and large maps this is resource-intensive.

There were some performance problems related to larger expression maps (affecting e.g. the Symphonic Riot expression map, which has more than 1700 switches), but we fixed those in Dorico 5.1.50 as best we could.

Great, @Daniel! Thank you! So I can even abound!
