I am finishing an 11 song album and will start with the Layout editing after that. I was wondering now what is the common use when it comes to the last page of a song. Should this always be page filling or are 2 or 3 systems on this page acceptable?
Ideally it’d be nice to fill the last page but only if it doesn’t negatively affect the layout before it by stretching the music out too much. Otherwise there’s nothing wrong with having an incompletely filled final page, although you should avoid filling only a small portion of it (like orphan lines in text setting). You should also avoid what Sibelius does by default: if the page has only two systems, the placing of the second system at the bottom margin, thereby leaving a large gap between the two systems. Fortunately Dorico has a setting for when to fill out pages (and even systems).
