So, I was looking for some advice/guidance regarding “latency” issues using VST instruments. I’m running N14. I know that lowering the buffer rate on my MOTU card helps to eliminate some of the latency. Currently, I have samples per buffer set at 512.
This helps, but I’m noticing a big impact on the Asio guard in Nuendo.
Is there some setting(s) in Nuendo I can adjust to help reduce the latency as well? I thought I had seen it printed somewhere but can’t find it.
We need to keep in mind that different drivers yield different latencies when using the same buffer size.
E.g. with a SR of 48kHz and a buffer size of 128 samples a Focusrite Scarlett yields 13.6ms latency, an RME Fireface 6.7ms..
Furthermore a USB interface might have higher latencies than an internal card.
That being said, 512 samples is too much for real time playing.
I have been using various libraries in my collection. EW, Trilogy, Keyscape, etc.
I will try lowering the buffer rate a bit more.
The only thing I’m noticing is the CPU usage is increased obviously when I lower the buffer.

Activate ‘Constrain Delay Compensation’. Don’t know what VST FX you are running, but this will deal with any that are causing higher latency while you record.
In doing more research regarding, (as ckon suggested earlier) I came across this below.
So if I engage CDC while I’m trying to lay down a bass track with Trilogy, it will reduce the latency? Is this correct and if so, this would be applicable to any VST instruments with similar issues while recording?
In Nuendo 14, Constrain Delay Compensation (CDC) is a vital tool designed to eliminate latency-induced delays while recording live audio or playing VST instruments. It works by instantly disabling high-latency plugins—specifically those surpassing the threshold set in VST preferences—on record-enabled tracks, groups, and VST instruments.
Hey CKON…. WoW! I engaged the CDC button and all the latency is gone.
I can’t thank you enough. And to all the rest of you for your time regarding this
matter. I’m a little wiser thanks to all of you.
