Latency OVERcompensation?

I’m in the process of reworking my whole rig, including a switch from PC to Mac and replacing my main audio interface.

In an analog loopback test, the recorded audio is a consistent 39 samples early. The result is the same regardless of Coreaudio buffer size. Even weirder, this is consistent whether “Adjust for Record Latency” is checked or not.

Hardware is a Mackie Onyx 1220i, connected to a MBP via Apple’s Thunderbolt-FireWire adapter. Software is Cubase Pro 8.0.35 running on OS X 10.11.4.

Obviously I can manually compensate via Record Shift, but this strikes me as really unusual. Never seen buffer delay overcompensated before, and not seeing a difference with the adjustment on or off seems wrong. Anything to be concerned about?

Have you got Apple’s Time Machine turned on? Perhaps it gives Macs TARDIS like capabilities? Sorry couldn’t resist.

Ha! If I had that kind of power, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t use it just for recording.

Did you ever figure this out? I’m having the same issue.
