I opened a score created in Dorico 3 in Dorico 6 and every page looks like that:
Resetting Layout didn’t change anything, and I also tried to play around with the “adjust when page 60% full” setting in the vertical spacing, to no avail. Why is this happening? I need to manually adjust every page now.
Are there any plans to introduce an “avoid collisions” feature? That would be very helpful!
Dorico does avoid collisions, using the gaps that you define in Layout Options.
But the emphasis is on “avoid”. Have you locked two systems onto the page? How full is the frame?
There have been some changes over the years that might have introduced small adjustments, and these may have been enough to have an effect on your score. But they can often be restored just by changing a few values in Layout or Engraving Options.
But, without seeing the whole document – the entire layout, System Breaks, Options, etc – then we can’t really know what the problem is or how to fix it.
Do you want 2 systems of … 8? staves on the page? That’s always going to be pretty tight, though perfectly possible.
I did not lock anything, and I tried to reset the layout completelt, but it didn’t help. So I just ended up doing all manually, which is not ideal in my opinion. But if Dorico is supposed to avoid collisions, I don’t understand why it evidently doesn’t do it in this case when I don’t have two systems locked to the page. The most natural thing would be that it would place just one system per page. The problem with having only one system per page would be that there would be too many pages.
I tried to change staff size, but when I changed back to this size, the same problem happened again.
As said, we really can’t offer any help without seeing the whole document.
Is the page over-full? (What is the percentage in the bottom left of engrave mode? What indications are there with signposts turned on? Are there any manual adjustments that would override Dorico’s calculations?
As Ben noted, a file would help us to help you much more quickly and easily.
