On the first page, there are often text boxes (title, subtitle, composer, year of composition, etc.) that squeeze the music frame a little. However, the frame margins are the same for the whole project (defined in Layout Options > Page Layout)
As a result, the first music frame always appears slightly compressed on the first page compared to the following pages. I think it would be beneficial for the layout to be able to adjust the margins of the first page’s frame only, for example, by making this first frame independent by inserting a frame break at the start of the second page, without affecting those of the other pages. OK, I know, I’m talking about pages rather than frames, but the manual itself says that since the music will be distributed within that frame, a frame break is exactly the same thing as a page break, so… I’ll go with that terminology. If this is already possible, I must have missed yet another detail in the 2500 pages of the manual (faced such volume of pages, please forgive me for preferring Alexandre Dumas’s La comtesse de Charny to Dorico literature ).
I don’t understand your request.
The First page template is fully customizable. You can move and resize the frames as you like within the page margins.
And if you want to have different page margins on the first and subsequent pages, define the lower value in the Layout Options and adjust the music frame in the Default template.
I know. But read again my post, please (the beginning).
As the first page contains a lot of items that aren’t on the subsequent pages, the music frame is inevitably smaller than on the other pages.
And this music frame has the same margins always ; that is the clue.
And with a large orchestral score, it is problematic because the first page isn’t beautiful for the eyes.
There’s nothing stopping you from adjusting the First page template so that the music frame overlaps with the text frame(s), if you know that the frame margin is sufficient. Other than that I’ll have to agree with @Vadian that it’s unclear exactly what you want here. You’re also adding to the confusion by mixing up pages and frames—they are distinct things with separate settings so it’s necessary to be clear which one we’re discussing.
If you are concerned about the top and bottom margin within the music frame, it can overlap the text frame a bit to give a little more room making it look like those margins are smaller.
If that is insufficient (a large orchestral score?), then I would suggest using something like a cover page with no music, and begin the music on a page that has a larger music frame.
I get it that you might need just a little more room and the idea of adjusting a specific frame’s margins would solve the issue — I think using an overlap would achieve the same thing.
I think this is an excellent idea, thank you. Just the Title and composer on the first page, and the other elements elsewhere. In that case, there will be no need to use a page template perso other than the “first” one provided by default in Dorico.
NB: yes, it is a very very large orchestral score.
Personally, I always have to adjust the first page template when I work with orchestra scores; it is really not often that I can leave it as it is. But idea of setting music frame margins separately for First / Default templates could be really handy. For instance, when laying out parts, the frame margin on the First page of a flute part with music in the top octave has to be bigger than the frame margin of a timpani part; here one could set the margins differently instead of overriding the frame on the page.
