so far I can see is that the software is activated and registered.

I had a similar problem with Cubase 4LE.
Try making an ISO file copy of the disk.
Copy the ISO file onto your hard disk
Install a Virtual DVD emulator
Set the ISO to mount in the DVD emulator
You should now be able to access the disk without error
