Finale worked reasonably well with Garritan using Robert Piechaud’s Human Playback, but the MIDI editor was a disaster

I second that. I managed to get good results with NotePerformer in Finale but not always, and sometimes had to combine GPO5 and NotePerformer for decent results when employing strings. I’ve only used NP for strings with Dorico once and the results were similar. Glissando work better for NotePerformer in Dorico than Finale due to a constraint with Human Playback in Finale. And yes, the MIDI Tool in Finale is useless and a relic of the 90’s.
