I’ve observed this in a few playback templates and various instruments, where a line which is marked with a slur/legato is obviously quiter than surrounding notes which are not slurred, even if the defined text dynamic remains the same.
This creates a most obvious problem on a fast phrase where slurred notes and unslurred notes are played back and forth within a single phrase. It becomes jarring when the normal notes keep sticking out as much louder. Take for example something like this:
Depending on the instrument or playback template, the nonslurred notes will stick out like a sore thumb.
However I notice it just as well on slower phrases, like this Choir piece I’m working on which uses the Spitfire Eric Whitacre playback template:
The whole note in the first bar sounds great, but as soon as it gets to the 2nd bar for those slurred half notes, the volume drops drastically. Ideally I want both to sound around the same volume at mf.
Is there some way to fix or overcome this?
