Let’s talk about cubase 15! 👀

It’s still impressive, that is running on Cubase 15? If so, was it the same performance on Cubase 14?

I have no issue recording 24 audio tracks at once in Cubase 12 Pro running Win 10 with an RME interface.

Nope, could not do that in 13 and 14, got graphic lag.
Worked till now in 12 for big projects.

Can’t wait to dig in a bit more. Really first thoughts:

  • Like the UI refinements
  • Like Hub allowing for audio device selection (this could be taken a lot further i.e. linking audio setup and routing better to projects)
  • Still no improved project synchronisation (not least the ability to shift midi clocks)
  • Like the idea of pattern events, but the pattern editor really needs per step legato and slides (via portamento or pitch bend/range)
  • How come can’t modulators be bounced to automation?

Ah wow! It wasn’t there until a few hours ago! I’ve seen everything, thank you so much! It all looks very interesting

I know this is going to sound like I’m a total Cubase fanboy (have been using Cubase 20+ years), but it’s hard not to be when this incredible update will:

  • Improve my creative flow with the many seemingly tiny but hugely significant GUI and workflow improvements.
  • Save me money with the improved automation workflow and new modulators, making yet another handful of 3rd party plugins largely redundant.
  • Make it possible with Omnivocal to easily sketch vocal ideas when collaborating with topliners.

Best version ever!!!

It also fails to load colours from 14 projects.

I can’t confirm this. Works just fine here.

xxxxxx unrelated to the question:
Two edits, so unnecessary:
Edit No1 = System automatically removed the quote because the sentence contained the whole post already.
Edit No2 = I added the quote once again.

The post looks as if I had edited it twice.

Of course once again, I wake up before work, get to install my update, and then have to leave for work! :smiling_face_with_tear:

Good thing I got a half day today haha!

Cubase has always been unstable. Most likely PC related though. Mac users never understand the struggle. Also, everyone is at different levels. A real producer using dozens of plugins, tracks , effects destroys a loop based beat maker.

Dam! What a beast!

Good evening dear friends, like some of you, I don’t know what to think of this new version of Cubase, but what I can tell you is that since 14.0.40 my Cubase system has gone crazy! Project loading and closing are long, very long, starting Cubase without failure every time and it announces freezes during the last startup, excessive and unusual CPU usage… I am desperate. So, since I know that this 14.0.40 update was painful for many people, I wonder if this update is meant to make us forget the troubles of .40, but I wanted to go back to 14.0.32 and it retained 80% of the problems of .40!! So how can we be sure that V15 will fix ALL the problems of .40? By the way, is it planned to fix the problems of .40? What do you think? (Good evening from France)

Haha! I thought the exact same thing. I have been wanting horizontal scrolling changes for years!

Overall, very good update. Missing the holy grail feature for me of click-and-drag ripple editing, but overall, very happy with this update. I’ll probably post more once I get into it.

Congrats, Steinberg! Fun times ahead once I get going with C15!

Any way to set this so I can record in Cycle Mode without the MIDI Part doesn’t automatically fill the whole Cycle?

Did anyone notice the stellar new polyphonic midi legato function in version 15? Was hoping for this and here it is. It’s so much quicker editing piano for notation. Thanks Steinberg!

I have no issues on my win11 pro systems, so it’s not really a “we” situation. .32 and .40 fine, nothing to fix…as is the case with many others.

As to your particular system, download, install, and run the cb15 trial and decide what is/isn’t different performance-wise.

That’ll provide the answers you’re looking for.

Stability in terms of a DAW, is mostly to do with the underlying OS.

So, maybe people need to learn how to keep their system clean, by using quality tools fit for the purpose, as well as drivers.

I often wonder about that when I see all these ‘problems’ folks have. My Mac has run Cubase flawlessly since I moved back to it at v11. Just like it ran Logic Pro flawlessly before it.

Mac users are notorious for adding third-party apps that modify stuff the Finder does, or flat out replaces it. Windows users with their various ‘add-ons’ that also take over and modify standard system behavior, skin the OS, registry hacks, etc.

Makes you wonder how unstable the system gets when you start messing with the internals, while the external devices and software were written to function how the system was intended to out of the box.

Most actual pro engineers and studio heads I know don’t touch their system. Hell, my friends dad is the guy that designed the “Ventura” rack preamp for A Designs. In 2001-2 or so he came back down to Ventura and was camped out in our rehearsal studio and brought his own rig down to do some work for a few weeks. He was still running an old beige 8600 with a rack full of old ass Digidesign Mix hardware and Mac OS 8. No convincing him to upgrade to OS X or 9, or even update his plugins or ProTools. The setup paid the bills and did so very well, he wasn’t about to risk breaking his livelihood hah. I think it was around 2008 or 9 when my buddy gave him the MDD G4 that was in there and he finally moved up to the ‘modern world’ even thought the Intels had already come out and demolished the PPC Macs heh. He left us a rack full of his preamps though, the ones that eventually went into the A-Designs box.

Good morning everyone, I managed to upgrade to the C15 Pro and so far I’m really enjoying it! Although there are a few things I’m not sure about: is there a way to add a custom color to any track (beyond the basic ones Cubase provides)? I also don’t know why the “Play” function (key 9) isn’t working. Is this happening to you too, or am I doing something wrong?

You can define your own custom color palette and pick a track color from it.

Not sure what you’re referring to. Would you mind elaborating?
