Hi Everyone. I had a playing technique for left hand (LH) that would center with fingering using a paragraph style, I think. Now it is converted to just a font style and no longer centers on the note head.
Playing techniques only use font styles, not paragraph styles, and the I think the text playing techniques all left-align on the notehead. If you change the type from Text to Glyph, it will center-align.
It’s strange since I’ve been using it successfully for the past couple of years and it automatically centered on the notes. Suddenly, it’s not doing that. I’ll attach some files tomorrow. Thanks Aaron.
Good morning, Aaron. Attached is a file of elementary piano solos I engraved last year.
If you look at the bottom of page 13, you’ll see a right-hand indication (RH) input as a playing technique using the Fingering Text Font. It used to center perfectly on the notehead and avoid collisions with finger numbers.
I recently switched my fingering font from Century Old Style Bold (my go-to since the '90s!) to Academia Bold, thinking I should go “all in” with Dorico defaults. I realized yesterday that since making that switch, the indications aren’t centering correctly anymore.
It’s not a huge deal, but I spent way too much time yesterday trying to debug it—as is the case with all technology lately! LOL. Any insights would be appreciated.

You have this setting in Engraving Options:
If you reset to factory (0), then:
(As far as I know this is the only way to control the horizontal position of text Playing Techniques?)
I don’t have that Century Old Style Font, but when I change the fingering font to Academico Bold, the playing technique looks mostly centered over the note. As @charles_piano indicates, you can adjust that engraving setting to change the positioning of (all) text playing techniques.
That’s right. So I went into the Library Manager to make sure settings are the same, and it’s still not aligning centered. There’s something I’m missing, and I’ll send an update when I figure it out.
