I have Dorico 6 project I worked on just yesterday. Today I tried to open it per double click. Dorico started in SE mode, telling me that the project will open view only. I quit dorico and tried again. Same result.
I then started the Steinberg Activation Manager and found out, that there are two versions of D6, one registered, and one test version:
I never registered a test version. I recently used the Steinberg Download assistant to update D6 to the latest version. I was not asked for any licencing progress, it just installed, and after launching the updated dorico app it worked properly as Dorico Pro 6. I did the update only some days before.
I then started Dorico 6 - not by opening the document, but by opening the dorico app itself. Here it started as Dorico 6 Pro, and I was able to open my project properly.
But I’d like to solve this issue. How do I get rid of the spare entry in the Activation manager?
There is no way for you to remove the extra entry on your own. You need to get in touch with support to clean the Activation Manager. This is a know problem, several other users already asked for a function to remove these entries.
The old entry will be harmless. The reason that Dorico started up as SE will probably be that you held down a modifier key (cmd or alt) when you were selecting or double-clicking on the file in the Finder, and that will cause Dorico to start up in a different “mode”. This is useful for people who need to share files with those on a different licence, so they can see what features are available in the other licenced states.
I know this “mode-selection-by-modifier-key”. I can rule this out, because I tried to open the same file a second time after quitting dorico - very cautiously watching my “modifier-finger” to stay put…
If you want to upload your Dorico Diagnostics file I can take a look, but I don’t think the expired licence in your account will be relevant, as both licences are for the Pro version.
Also bear in mind that it’s not whether cmd is held down when you double-click, it’s whether it’s held down during Dorico’s start-up. It’s possible to trigger this accidentally if you use cmd-tab between open apps.
I assume that I did not use the mouse to open the project but the cmd-o shortcut and my finger did in fact linger a little too long on the cmd key.
