Likely OT: Mac. Finder no longer allows renaming of Dorico files

Well, this is weird! As of a few minutes ago, in Finder.app I cannot rename Dorico files on my Mac running Sonoma 14.7.2. I did it earlier today several times, but for some reason Finder no longer allows it. The right-click / Option-click menu does not include “Rename” (only for Dorico files), and clicking and holding on the file name does not transform the filename into an editable gray color. All other files (it seems) I can still can rename. I have restarted the Mac, which means Dorico was shut down and restarted, too. There must be some permissions thing that is messed up, but I certainly did not do it on purpose. Ughh!!

Can anyone help me out? Thank you very much!

Eric

Is this within your user account, or on iCloud Drive, or somewhere else?

Hi, @benwiggy! It’s in my user account.

Very weird. Do you have file extensions set to show in the Finder, or are they hidden?

What happens if you rename a file like “test.txt” to “text.dorico”…? And then try to rename it?

Can you post a screenshot of the Dorico file in a Finder window, including preview panel?

Well, well! It is now working! I recently tried to place a PDF into InDesign and InDesign (or the OS) would not let me, saying that I did not have permission to do so. Then in a few moments it allowed me to. Then I just went and looked at a Dorico PDF that I exported, and it had “[conflicted]” at the end of the filename. I think it is that I am using a backup service to backup the folder where these files are located. Apparently it is locking them while backing them up. At the moment everything seems to be working as it should. I think it is more problematic when the internet connection is slower and it requires more time to make backups. When the connection is fast, there is less time for me to start working on something that has not yet been backed up. At least that’s my theory at this point …

Thank you for trying to help me out!
