Line breaks in Lyrics (not multiple verses)

I wanted to transcribe Sir Duke. It has two verses. However, in the main chorus, there is very little change between the first and the second verse – the first time they sing “They can feel it all over”, the second time “You can feel it all over”. In the piano version I have here, “They” and “You” is simply put on top of each other, the rest of the line is vertically centered.

Is it possible to do something similar in Dorico?

This is certainly possible, but not easy. Put They on lyrics verse 1, You on verse 2, the rest of the lyrics as Chorus. This can either be set in the properties or in the popover (arrow down once to get verse 2, arrow up twice to get the chorus). And as for the parens, use staff text and place it in Engrave mode…

The verse/chorus combination works perfectly, thanks! Entering the braces is a little cumbersome, but I’m happy that copy-paste preserved the ignore-collision setting and offsets, which seem to align pretty well in the other places of the chorus as well.

To me the idea of Stevie with bar numbers and curly braces is kind of hilarious. But well done.

Oh no, I hope I’m not angering the R&B Jazz Soul gods haha

Here’s the raw version I’ve got so far if you’re interested. (I’m doing it for a student, so I left out most chords)

I love that B to Fm change.

Actually I recognize that original sheet music from the 1970s!
