Line breaks in text frames default to Academico 12.0 pt

Hey all,

In Dorico 5, line breaks in text frames default to Academico 12.0 pt and resist change, unless you add a space. This is most noticable if you have text that is much smaller/bigger than 12 pt.

Could anyone please see whether this glitch (if it is one) is fixed in Dorico 6? (I’ve already used my trial.)

Thanks!

It looks like the issue can be replicated this way:

  1. Create a text frame and start text input
  2. With the editing toolbar, change the size of the text
  3. Enter text which contains a blank line (i.e., two consecutive carriage returns)
  4. Exit the text frame

The blank line resizes itself to the size of the underlying paragraph style, not the user-specified size.

This appears to still happen in Dorico 6.

In both versions of Dorico, you can avoid this by defining a new paragraph style with the desired font size and using that for the text in the frame. That is, instead of starting with Default Text and changing the font size in the frame to 40pts, create a new paragraph style with 40pt text and use that for your text frame.

Edit: You can also define a paragraph style with the Gap After Paragraph property set, and then you don’t need empty lines at all.

Thanks, Aaron! Your edit, in particular, is an even better way of solving the underlying goal I had (which was to make paragraphs and add bullet points by hand).
