This is a crash that I’ve had since Cubase Version 5.0, but have never uploaded a crash dump for. Steps
-Midi editor of a part
-Switch to line tool
-Edit CC data during playback
-Crash dump warning
Cubase grinds to a halt sometimes on heavy projects when using the line tool or draw tool. Here’s the .dmp but I can send the CPR file too if needed. line tool crash.zip (1.03 MB)
This happened again today, and I knew it was about to happen right when I accidentally used the line tool on the midi roll instead of the controller lane. Cascading warning. Here is the faulting module info:
Here’s another observation I have about this. Although it’s yet to happen in Cubase 8.5.0, there is a very consistent CPU/ASIO Spike whenever I use the line tool to draw in CC lanes of the piano roll. I know I am pushing Cubase pretty hard with lots of VSTs, but it seems odd that drawing a simple line should require so much resources.
Yeah since 8.0.30 alot of people have issues with spikes and laggy GUI Performance especially with tools like “Line” “Pencil” and “Scissors”. It causes spikes especially when having low latency settings.
Could you please try the following:
Go to preferences>Editing>Tools
Turn off the vertikal line in the crosshair cursor section.
Does this ease off the spikes?
It does for me
For your crashes i unfortunately (well fortunately for me though ) can reproduce your error. I am on Win 7 64bit and Cubase Pro 8.0.30 and 8.5.0 and it doesn’t happen here.
Your errors are pretty random. Have you checked the user rights on everything related to Cubase?
Thanks, and good find! This is blatantly obvious for me. I tried without either of the vertical or horizontal lines enabled, and it is snappier than a turtle. Turn those features on and it’s super laggy. Even just moving the mouse creates a visible lag between the horizontal lines and the cursor (the cursor moves and then it takes a second for the lines to catch up).
