Linear or stepped tempo changes?

Hi,

Dorico allows for linear tempo changes. Draw a diagonal line, and the tempo will change gradually.

Is this the correct way of entering tempo changes? Or, wouldn’t steps a better way? I mean, steps at the same beat as a conductor’s baton, with the occasional slowing at the end of the beat.

Are the two methods different enough to prefer the more laborious one over the simpler and fast line?

Paolo

I would think a line is absolutely better. What about the subdivisions?? It’s not just the quarter notes, but each 16th note that must be gradually changing as well.
