Listening to multiple staves with the arrow keys?

Hi!

Is there a way to do that? If not, something like that would be useful for me. Right now, often I’m stepping through a melody to hear it again (I’m not a pianist…), and to be able to hear selected other staves along with the one I’m editing while stepping through the music would be fantastic!
Makes sense?

Thx, Benji

This is what some users sometimes call “scrub playback”, and it’s not yet implemented in Dorico, though it’s something we may well add in future.

Thx, looking forward to it!:+1:

The Scrub playback feature, implemented sometime after this post was written, is certainly a useful way to go about this. Just realized it lets users scrub just selected staves.

It would be handy if something similar could be achieved via the right and left arrow keys, perhaps using user-selected staves, rather than just scrubbing through everything that is showing in the current layout.

I suppose such a feature could allow for variations in note lengths between selected staves, by:

  • letting a user specify the step time variation
  • defaulting to the smallest increment for the selected notes
  • tying into whatever’s set for the caret grid

Comparing harmonies via arrow key would seem to offer some more precise comparison capabilities, without resorting to the extra mousing required by scrubbing.
