Ever since the newest update that added the “resume from previous position in score” feature (I know a lot of people wanted this), I’ve had a frustrating little issue.
Examples:
while in Page View, I select a non-condensed instrument’s measure. normally, this meant that if I switched to Galley View that measure would have been at least more-or-less on the “same page” (ie: not way back at the beginning of the score.)
But now the view jumps apparently randomly back toward the beginning of the score (I haven’t been able to ascertain whether it’s jumping to wherever I previously was in Galley View.)
If I change the zoom factor, this seems to randomly happen as well.
I just tested it again on an orchestral score.
Measure 154, I selected an entire bar of clarinet (non-condensing, since I have independent Bb clarinet and Bb bass clarinets in this score.)
I changed to Galley View and… my score is now showing me measure 350.
I recenter my page to have that clarinet measure bar on screen, and switch back to Page View… and now it’s showing me measure 90.
Thankfully simply pressing “C” centers the music to my highlighted bar (I THINK I assigned that key command?), but still, it’s frustrating in a large orchestral score to continuously wonder where I am when switching between Views.
I just tried it with a multi-flow work, and selected a full measure in flow 3, when I switched to Galley View, it was showing me measures in flow 2.
I tried to replicate the behaviour you describe both in a single-flow and a multi-flow project, but I’m not getting the same results. When I switch between Page View and Galley View, my selection always remains in view… (Windows 10 Dorico 5.1.7)
I don’t know, it never did this before, I believe it started with the last update.
It used to be that I could select a non-condensed measure and switch easily back and forth between views and zoom levels, without my selected measure moving much other than sometimes vertically (if there were a lot of other condensed instruments in the score.)
But now it’s skipping back and forth.
I can be viewing measure 100 in condensed view, select an uncondensed instrument’s measure, change to Galley view, and suddenly am another 100 measure off. when I recenter my view, then return to page view, it again will be off by a certain number of measures, or even in the wrong flow.
And when I again center my music to the desired bar, if I change zoom levels it again moves to a new measure!
This IS a bit frustrating as it requires me to continuously re-center the music to the desired bar when I’m making rapid-fire edits.
I’ve noticed (and gotten used to) the behaviour where if you select a measure in Galley view that belongs to a pair of instruments that are condensed in the score (Page view), then yes, it will automatically take you to the very first measure of the score.
I guess I understand that behaviour since it cannot resolve the selection of a measure from a pair that are condensed.
I’m wondering, does it happen while you are within one view (such as Galley), in particular with undo/redo commands? I have been witnessing a lot of screen jumping the past week and it’s driving me crazy, I also posted about it. Curious if you’re witnessing a similar behavior and if it’s related.
I haven’t necessarily noticed it on “undo” commands.
most of the time it’s simply been when I’ve gone and adjusted a note or a dynamic in a part that is condensed (where I must change from Page view to Galley view to make any changes).
I usually select a measure in the nearest un-condensed staff as a sort of “anchor” point that was supposed to let me keep my view near where I am presently working.
I usually select a full bar from an un-condensed instrument, then do whatever needs to be done in Galley view, then again, select a measure from an un-condensed instrument before switching back to Page view.
but changing back to page view makes my page view show a completely different page/measure from where I selected material.
and if I then find where I was (using “center view”, which is simply C on my keyboard commands) if I change zoom levels it again will hop to some random other page.
I see the jumping back to previous pages after changing from page view to galley view and then changing the zoom size in Version 5.1.60.2187 (Oct 8 2024). It happens with and without a note selected.
I’ve been experiencing a similar issue since maybe two updates ago when using ‘W’ to switch between individual layout and score. When I zoom in or out, the software randomly moves to a different place in the score. This is systematic and happens in all my projects…
my spouse suggested that possibly it was because of a glitch of some sort in my Stream Deck, but we tried without the stream deck and the problem persists.
the reason I only just came across this behaviour in the program is that I’d been working on two scores for chamber pieces, which never required me to use Galley view. I could always work in Page view.
I only this week returned to make some corrections in a large orchestral score, where this glitching jumping behaviour became apparent.
I noticed another instance where I’m getting a massive jump, and it’s when I use Engrave mode and check the layout of the various types of boxes (text, music, etc…)
As soon as I enter that mode via the right panel, the screen zooms WAAAAAY out, leaving me with a postage stamp sized score page, which I then need to zoom into once again.
I can add some instances of screen jumping to this topic… When in Galley view in a full score, simply activating or deactivating the Show Tabs button will jump the view to bar 1 of the top staff. After that, neither Go to Bar nor the Go To part of the Jump bar work anymore (see gifs, I had to cut it in 2 gifs due to file size but I recorded it in one instance). The Go to commands will start working again at some point, but I haven’t been able to pinpoint what makes them work again. The combination of losing your position and not being able to jump back quickly is rather unfortunate, to put it mildly. This is not specific to one project either.
Additionally, activating or deactivating split screen will also make at least one of your open tabs jump to a different position. I’ve also had the view in a tab jump to a different position seemingly at random while in split screen, which kind of defeats the purpose. All these things are relatively small in isolation, but the interruptions to your work flow add up after a while.
I have also been struggling a bit with the screen jumping around.
These are the moments when it happens to me:
-Switching from galley view to page view
-switching from page view to galley view
-sometimes even switching from page view (write) to engrave mode (??)
-zooming after a switch. At first the position looks correct, but when I zoom with mouse the view jumps instantly to a different location.
Usually the view jumps some amount of pages away, but sometimes also to the start of the layout.
These jumps happen both when I use an external monitor (32’ Pro display XDR) or the laptop monitor (16’ Macbook Pro M2 Max)
I have often two tabs open, but the jumps happen also with just one tab open. The app is always in full screen mode.
I’m using the second to latest dorico version, so the one before the last update. (I’ll update when my current project is finished.)
