Hi,
I’m looking for a way to use my stomp (a “kick” I play on every beat with my foot) as the real‑time tempo / MIDI Clock source in Cubase or VST Live.
Concretely:
-
I play live with a stomp box acting like a kick drum on every beat (1–2–3–4), like a bass drum.
-
I would like this stomp to be the tempo reference: each foot hit represents the global tempo.
-
The idea is that Cubase / VST Live locks to this tempo, and that
-
arpeggiators,
-
tempo‑synced delays,
-
LFOs / synced modulations
all follow the clock derived from this stomp.
-
My questions:
-
Is there any way for Cubase or VST Live to sync in real time to a stomp audio signal (kick on every beat) and derive a reliable MIDI Clock or project tempo from it?
- For example via a real‑time tempo tracker or any internal tool that can follow a percussive audio signal?
-
If this is not possible directly, is there any VST / VST3 plugin that can:
-
listen to this stomp as audio,
-
detect / follow the tempo in real time,
-
and send this tempo (or a clock) back to Cubase / VST Live or to other plugins (arpeggiators, delays, etc.)?
-
-
Can Cubase / VST Live run as a slave to an external MIDI Clock, and if so, is there any way to convert this stomp audio → MIDI Clock using a plugin or some intermediate solution?
My goal is:
-
Not to impose a fixed tempo from the computer,
-
but instead to let the tempo come from my foot (stomp kick) and have the whole environment (Cubase / VST Live + VST instruments/effects) follow this tempo, especially arpeggiators and tempo‑synced effects.
Thanks in advance for any ideas, experiences, or configuration examples (Cubase or VST Live).
