In the past, I have avoided using track presets as much as I could, for various reasons, two of them being their inability to save reliably rack instruments and the too many inconsistencies when looking for them in their supposed locations. But recently, I had to use them in the context of this thread.
The Mediabay-Track/vstpresets system has been introduced in Cubase 4 (circa 2006). Twenty years after, we apparently still have to deal with pitfalls such as the one which follows.
At different moments, I used the [right-click] > Save Track presets… command in the track list to keep an instrument+MIDI tracks combination. A related window opened and I’ve been able to enter the track preset name and save it. Great… Then, I needed to recall one or the other for various testing purposes. Here is what I got each time, using the [right-click] > Load Track preset… command :
Hi, if I understood correctly, you want to load a multi preset. The thing is that if you right-click and choose “Load Track Preset” the files shown will be filtered based on your initial track(s) selection. If for example you choose “Load Track Preset” in a single Instrument track, the “Multi” track presets won’t show up. If you have selected the exact same number of tracks as the ones you have in your multi, it will appear. This is probably cumbersome, though I understand it as a safety mechanism to properly replace specific tracks.
What I suggest is instead of executing “Load Track Preset” to execute the “Use Track Preset” instead, if of course the aim is to create a fresh instance of this multi.
I agree, but I guess it’s OK after we find the deeper meaning I got puzzled too, some times ago, when I saw the “Use Track Preset” and “Load Track Preset”, so I had to make some quick tests to figure it out.
