Having nothing better to do, I was browsing through the Factory Presets in the Logical Editor. Most of them were, logical, and easy to follow.
But then there is this one - Select Every Other Hi-Hat.
In the first column (Filter Target) there is a value called “Value 1”. But there is no “Value 1” on the dropdown list of available targets.
My question is: Where does it come from?
That’s so easy, I’ll let @Reco29 answer it.
Out of the blue I’d say F#1 refers to the position of the Hi-Hat in a standard Drum-Map. Haven’t checked it but it seems about right.
EDIT: Yes, it’s the closed HH in a standard GM Drum-Map
LOL. you didn’t know, admit!
But I’ll let the grown-ups take over - M.C. is about to correct me I’m afraid…
Not a Scooby.
The Logical Editor is for MIDI only.
MIDI 1.0 messages are often constructed in the same way:
Type and channel, Value 1, Value 2
E.g. for a NoteOn message value 1 would be the pitch, value 2 the velocity.
For a CC value 1 would be the actual controller number, value 2 the data value.
Steinberg has started to implement clear names for many of the items the LE can address, but still uses Value 1 (and Value 2) as the generic name for such items.
It’s a bit of a misch-masch.
Oh, and where does it come from? Leftovers from former versions of Cubase.
I’ve noticed that from CB12 up to CB14 there have been more fields, and some got renamed.
In CB12 I see:
In Cb14:
If we mix these, we get something like this (please notice the question marks):
I can be way off when it comes to value 1-3. Not a LE user, just my observations. Perhaps @Johnny_Moneto is spot on
I hope there is not an inch of doubt in that?
Here is an excerpt from the manual of Cubase 3 for Atari, chapter “Logical Edit” (sic):
Not at all. Though I can’t be sure about how Steinberg exactly interpreted these during the years, since as mentioned I haven’t been using LE at all For example I now see the “Main Value”. Is it Value 1? I just don’t know (not that I got into reading the manual for these changes anyway).
For some reason I suddenly fancy some bubble and squeak.
I suppose the LE still accepts the leftovers for backwards compatibility. I’d like to think so.
