Long List of unwanted Playback Techniques

All of a sudden I have a very long list of unwanted playing techniques which I never entered in Dorico PLUS I can’t get rid of (erase) them anymore.

Can somebody help please?
Playing Techniques.dorico.zip (566.3 KB)

Checking your file in the Library Manager against the Factory Settings, I can’t see any additional PTs. Which ones particularly do you think are “new”?

Dorico does come with quite a lot of PTs by default. They just sit in the side-panel, and don’t do any harm.

SORRY ! I meant PLAYBACK technique…
Stuff like this:

Millions of them…

I can’t see those in the document, so it must be something that’s saved as a default on your system.

If you try to create a new playback technique and the you go on playback technique, you will see them:

No: as said, they are not in the document. They must be in your setup.

Thank you so much…do you have any idea, where in my set-up I could look for them? In which folder on my computer? I don’t have a clue…

They aren’t appearing for me either. If you start a file from File / New, do they have all the extra Playing Techniques too? If so, there must be a doricolib file in your DefaultLibraryAdditions folder that is adding them.

Could it be a playback template that was installed without knowing it?

First of all, I’d do what Fred suggests – create a new project file, and see if they are there. That will prove that it’s your setup.

Hey all of you.
That’s what I did in the very beginning already - before I posted here. Also the ZIP file in the post is a complete new project.
And if I open this zip-file I get all these playback names…must be like 300-400. I don’t know how I can delete them. I opened the application support folder. and also the programme (hidden) folder. I don’t have enough knowledge to know which folder I have to delete…

Can you upload your userlibrary.xml file? (You may have to zip it.)

I suspect it won’t be in the userlibrary.xml file, but rather it’s coming from either a playback template you’ve applied, or that you have something lurking in your DefaultLibraryAdditions folder (again, almost certainly related to a playback template you’ve installed).

I erased all user libraries which I installed recently.

This is how my DefaultLibraryFolder looks like:

Tis is my library in the Dorico-Programme-Folder:

And my instrument expressions map:

And my percussion expression map:

If you’re still seeing the long list of playback techniques, I suggest you do Help > Create Diagnostic Report and attach the resulting zip file here, which will allow us to get a look at your user library.

Ok…hope that helps…

Indeed, all of these playback techniques are in your user library file. I’ve removed them all in the attached version, which you can use to replace your current one if you wish. To do so, download the zip file below and unzip it: you will have a single file called userlibrary.xml.

In the Finder, go to /Users/your-username/Library/Application Support/Steinberg/Dorico 5. Copy the unzipped file into this folder, overwriting the one that is already there. Now restart Dorico, and those playback techniques will be gone.

Thank you so much Daniel ! Fantastic.

Do you have any idea how this could have happened? During installing an external playback technique probably, no?

I’m not sure. Presumably you installed some third-party playback template or set of expression maps at some point.

I’m a little late posting to this thread, but I do recognize those playback techniques because I created them! There are indeed maybe 600 to 700 I think. It’s possible someone else created the same ones, but I’m almost certain they originated from my system. There are the same number of Playing Techniques, and each one is linked via several Expression Maps to different cells in several 12 x 12 matrices in a VSL VI Pro player. Each Playing Technique has three Expression Map entries - key switches and CC’s, so it was a lot of work, but prior to using NotePerformer and NPPE, this allowed me complete articulation control for each and every note in my score, and indeed, I still partially use this system.

Now, how did they get onto your system? That is an interesting question. I have never posted a Playback Template because I don’t use them, nor any of my custom Expression Maps. I have also posted very few Dorico song files over the years, but presumably I must have posted something that you downloaded, and in the process, all my Playback Techniques got merged into your system. A quick look through my previous posts did not shed any light on the situation, but I did not go back that far…

Anyway, I’m glad Daniel was able to help you erase them because I’m sure they are of no use to you, but at least you now know where they came from…So sorry! It’s a little strange though…I know many people share Dorico song files, and I wonder if Playback Techniques always get imported into ones User Library like this?
