Looking for some solution with Chord Track, Please :)

Hello all, I have a question!

I have a song, but want to have fun with chord track, let`s say in the second verse. I am put tracks into “Follow chord track mode”, but how Do I stop it to change notes where there`s no chords on chord track? I mean, I want to have some parts of the song getting changed and follow chord track, but others just stay at the same place.

Or better to say: how could I lock midi information (events) from being changed by this function? I thought about just Duplicate all instrument tracks, but there should be easier solution?

Thanks in Advance!

Hi,

Sorry this is not possible. That track either follows the Chord Track or not.

In your case, just add one more track which will not follow the Chord track.

Thanks for the straight answer! Yeah, Duplicate tracks should be fine!

But maybe You will help me more: Maybe I could LOCK midi items from tracks that follows chord track and when I put them on other track (without that mode) they stay the same?

Hi,

You don’t have to lock the MIDI parts in this case. If the MIDI parts have been created already and you move them to another track, they will just keep as they are.

Thanks! I didn`t know it!

Do you really need the Track(s) to actually be playing the Chord Track by following it directly? Or do you only need it to play the same thing that’s on the Chord Track?

Because you can drag the Chord Event(s) onto an Instrument Track and it will create MIDI Parts for each Chord. Doing it this way combined with Track Versions lets you easily compare different progressions.

Or, the Chord Track also supports Versions. So you could populate it with all the unchanging Chords. Then make a a bunch of copied Versions of that and use a different Version to try out the other Chord variations.

Hi,

Raino is totally right. The Follow Chord Track function is useful mainly for the melody track or for bassline, for example. If you just want to follow the chord all the time, once you change the chord, the melody or the bassline just starts to follow immediately.

Hi, raino! Let me get clear about what I am doing:
I`ve already create some pop track with a lot of layers of basses, chords and etc without chord track. But I just like to use Chord track as a Randomizer because I like to hear something really different from where I was, but I don`t like idea that Chord track just starts to “erase” what was original composition.

I know that I can make something similar trough Key Editor, but for this I need to open midi tracks, and option “follow chord track” click on every change of chords.

I`ve understand You`re idead about chord track Versions, but this would be cool if I already create arrangment from Chord track, but because I`ve already built whole arrangment (chords, voicings, etc…) and just want to toss some chords around I need to duplicate tracks and work on them in order to not kill what I already made.

Just be cool to lock midi in that way that even Chord track couldn`t move them

Now I’m not clear about what you are trying to do. Are you using the Chord Track to play a VSTi - which is what I thought you were doing. Or are you using the Chord Track to modify already existing MIDI data. Or something else?

Second. I am not trying to use chord track for input, but rather for changing existing parts of a song.

I am trying to randomize already existing midi data. Like, for example, I want to change chords in a song somwhere in the middle. In already made music arrangment where I have layered a lot of vst`s together in diffirent parts of a song.

It seems that the best workflow for me is to just duplicate tracks and create separate folder for duplicated tracks and use these folder for “randomization".

What do You think about this?

When you say ‘random’ here, what do you mean by that? Perhaps a specific example would help clarify.

I mean that by using chord track on already inputted midi data..it`s like giving me some randomization vibe, so to speak. That it can create harmonies that I couldn`t imagine before. Here You could see that I have duplicated main tracks in order to make the same sounds “follow chord track” . You see, if I put “follow chord track” on first tracks (Which Is blueish) it will ruin(change) all midi data on them which I don`t want to have.

Let`s say I only want to have function “follow chord track” (or just to change harmony in that bar) only where`s my Region are, in order to do this I need to create duplicate tracks. And make them follow chord track.

What if prior to enabling Follow Chord Track You select all the MIDI Parts you don’t want disturbed and Lock them.

I

If the chord event is set to “no chord” (X), no chord will be played there. Sadly, there’s no option to make a chord event that. You have to delete the chord event at the track and put an empty event.

Hi,

As far as I understand, it’s not about playing chords back, it’s about already written MIDI data follow the Chord Track events. Or am I missing something?

That’s my understanding too.

I`ve tried to Lock them in every possible way. My first question in this topic was about a way to lock them. But there`s answer! Lower in this topic

GENIUS!!! Thanks!!! It`s working!!

I just put everywhere Those “X”, that “X” and all my midi data stay`s on the same place! Just put them everywhere Before and After where I want those changes to happen!!!
