Losing my place when going from Galley view to Page view

Swapping between Page and Galley view when condensed staves are involved is leading to the following undesirable behaviour:

  • In Write mode Galley view, select an object (note, dynamic, whatever) that is in a condensed stave when it is in Page view.
  • Switch to Page view.
  • Score returns to first page, not the place I had selected in Galley view as desired.

When doing the same thing but selecting objects in non-condensed staves, Page view shows the same place in the score as expected.

Is this a bug, or have I missed a setting somewhere? I’m on version 5.1.21 of Dorico Pro.

It’s probably just an undesirable consequence of condensed objects not being selectable in Page View.

I was going to start a thread but saw this one. I have related issues.

In condensed Page view, I can spot errors I don’t see in Galley View. (Example: Horns meant to be a4 show up as more than one part because a slur or dot is missing on one part.) But as noted in the original post, Dorico loses its place when switching between Galley and Page views, and there are no bar numbers in Page view.

Is there are way to maintain your location when switching back and forth?

Have you tried hitting “P” to start playback, and then hit it again to stop? I often do this when switching from score to part, etc., to get Dorico to jump to the selection.

Or you could select a barline, or system text, or other global object.

Another option, if you have more than one display or at least a large single display, is to either have two project windows open, one in galley view and the other in page view, or to use Window > Vertical Split (or Horizontal Split if you prefer) to show two views within the same window, and show galley view in one and page view in the other.

@konradh , actually you can activate bar numbers also for page view, from the menu View/Bar Numbers:

@Christian_R , Excellent! Thanks.
@dspreadbury , Thanks, Daniel. Right now I am working on an MS Surface Studio, but I may add a dock and more monitor real estate. I’m sort of torn between having those features and keeping things simple. :slight_smile:

I could not really pinpoint when it is happening but today I had a large score with a vertical split, half in galley view and another half in page view. However when changing to layout view a lot of times the view went back to the first page. I had to memorize the bar I was editing and go back to that bat with jump bar. Tried without the split view and apparently it was working as expected.

I was able replicate the issue when switching between write and engrave mode if an object is selected everything goes as expected.
But if no object is selected, when pressing the engrave mode it goest straight to the beginning.
