Lost instruments within the "E button"

Greetings-

I have a score that does not seem to recognize any instruments through the “E button” - I do not have any playback. All of my VSTs are on an external SSD, which I organized through the library manager. I have other older scores that playback without issue.

Any suggestions about where to begin troubleshooting would be much appreciated!

I would start by doing Play > Playback Template and re-applying your desired playback template.

(The default template for v5.1 would be the one called “Iconica Sketch, HSO, HALion Sonic Sel, Olympus, GASE”. You mention “All my VSTs”, and I’m not sure if that means you’re using other VSTs, and therefore a different template.)

Try re-applying a Playback Template (Play>Playback Template…). That should reload all the sounds.

And if that what asherber and Janus propose does not work either, choose from Dorico’s menu Help > Create Diagnostics Report and post here the corresponding zip file. You best do that while still that project is loaded. Thanks

Thanks, all. That fixed it! I also double checked the download locations via the library manager to make sure the Steinberg VSTs could be found.

If I created the project WITHOUT the SSD plugged in, could that confuse Halion when I open the project WITH the SSD plugged in later?

If the sound content is located on your SSD, then of course HALion won’t be able to find it there if it’s not connected to your computer. But you should always be able to set things straight later on by re-applying the factory playback template.
