Lound Bursts of Sound - VE Pro 7 and Cubase 14

Hello all,

I’m using the latest version of VE Pro 7 and Cubase 14 on a fully updated Windows 11 with all 3rd party plugins updated.

I’m rebuilding my template in Cubase 14, and it has an issue with randomly maxing out a pink noise type signal to all of the Atmos bus. It does it when I have the midi track (assigned to a rack instrument VE Pro instance) active then click off of it to activate another track. It only does it if the VE Pro instrument has a buffer setting other than “none.” If I restart Cubase, the problem goes away for a random amount of time, then it starts again. I have to run a buffer in VE Pro, so this is kind of killing any productivity within 14.

Anyone else have this issue?

Hello there

I confirm I have a similar issue, but rather only when creating a folder and re-naming it! So bizarre… Random pink/white noise that disappears after a couple of seconds.
I am also using VEP7, latest update, and cubase 14.0.10. but my vep have buffers so I don’t think that the issue is related to buffering VEP

I hope the developers are watching this thread, it looks like a weird bug.

I have the similar issue, only when play wav files on a audiotrack. After couple of seconds random loud noise. I run Cubase 14.0.10 64 on Windows 11 i9 laptop with a RME baby face audio interface.

I’ve had something like this happen, and it turned out to be a 3rd party plugin that thought it wasn’t licensed (it was), and thus emitted a noise burst every minute or so to complain about that. Reactivating the plugin fixed it.

Update: with a buffer size of 512 the problem seems disappearing.
Have you tried it? Please send your updates. It’s been more than 18 days since I asked support at Steinberg and they are still playing ducks, so perhaps we could try to understand this by ourselves.

update: increasing buffer size didn’t help. After a while the problem came back anyway. I sent another support request to steinberg, they are really slow in replying!!

The only way I could get it to stop in 14 was to turn off the buffer or to disable ASIO guard for VE Pro. You are supposed to do that anyway, but the resource spike is totally nuts. I’m currently working in 13 until there is an update.
