Loving the new instrument rack outputs!

It helps with things like programmed drums.
In 7, you have to make a midi track + f11 instrument which opens another track for the instrument and its outputs.
In 7.5, you have just one instrument track, with the MIDI on it and the outputs directly beneath it.

Unless of course you have 8 or 9 group tracks that those outputs are routed to … then not so convenient.

You can do all of them at once in C7, but if you want a different arrangement don’t you have to go one by one?

@JMCecil Serious question, what do you need 8 or 9 group tracks, coming from your 8 or 9 outputs from the plugin? Having that many groups is not convenient whether it’s the old rack or the new rack. But it’s still a tad more convenient now, having 2 tracks less. When you have 20 tracks from the same instrument, sure it’s not much, but when you have just 6 or 7, it’s nice having 2 less.

When mixing percussion I send to mix groups, per instrument type, I have cue sends, parallel compression busses etc… Yes, it is slightly more convenient. But, it is still lagging behind proper presets like in Sonar, Logic, Reaper, ProTools …

is this true? I am at work so I can’t confirm but that sucks. I was hoping to be able to save instruments with multi-outs and their routings as track presets

I love that I can save a huge Vienna Ensemble Pro (track preset) with 50 midi channels and 50 stereo audio channels WITH NAMES!

Unfortunately, not only does the track preset not remember routing, but it also doesn’t remember sends either…
Almost there…

yeah, anything that is one connection down the food chain doesn’t save. So close, yet so far.

yer its like they forgot the jam on that piece of bread missing the sends and routing ( even if the buss don’t exist it could just display it grey it out until the outs find a matching destination name)…

im in the same boat lots Multi out instruments going to buss’s and fx buss’s … 1 click can take 15 mins to configure the routing

Yeah, I was so excited to get instrument presets for multi-outs. But as you say, it’s kind of useless cause the presets don’t remember sends/output routing etc.

Not very usable in its current state. Bummer.

“useless” although I’m probably guilty of saying that as well, is probably too strong a word. It’s more of a baby step towards a real multi-track type preset solution.

Sorry. Blanket statement.

I meant it’s not usable in it’s current state the way I was hoping to use it in my own workflow. The idea is great, but there’s some hammering to be done.

as a quick workaround…

i wonder if the preset would include send / return / groups if they were selected whilst saving .trackpreset ??

i have installed yet otherwise i would try myself …

I just posted a new thread regarding the difference between Track Instruments and Rack Instruments in Cubase 7.5.

Does anyone know the pros and cons of each type? Seems like the functionality is now almost identical. I’m wondering which instrument type to use (Rack or Track).

Thanks for the idea majc. But unfortunately no. Although not remembering sends is def an issue, the even bigger problem is the preset not remembering output assignments. When 16 different multi outs have to be outputting to various stems in my template, the whole magic of a preset is lost if I have to then reassign the outputs to the right group channels.
