Sorry for the late reply. Just trying Dorico again after a long absence.
I’m still having the same issue. I’ve tried what you recommend, but it does not help. They’re all just variations of setting the mixer sliders. When I have the sliders at their defaults of -6db, I can barely hear anything. Even if I crank both the instrument and the master to their max at 6db, they still sound quiet. Now clearly audible, but much quieter than other applications that produce sound on my machine.
To make Dorico useful, I’d have to custom set every other application on Windows to about 20% volume. I also don’t think maxing out each mixer slider (and the master) just to be able to hear anything at all is a good idea. These are meant to tweak the volumes, and not something you should be maxing on every instrument just to hear them.
I’ve had this issue on both my older computer and now my new computer I’ve recently installed Dorico on. This quietness issue is a big problem that will probably stop me from using this application. Other people seem to be having it too. And setting the Default Output Level is doing nothing useful. Isn’t there anything that can be done to make Dorico play at a reasonable volume by default?
On my Mac I run an app called eqMac which allows you to modify with a pre-amp. I can also tune my speakers when using those. I was just having a similar problem and this made an instant fix or override.
I am having the same issue as well. Connect with my Bose headphones to my mac (MacBook Pro 2024, Tahoe) and the sound is incredibly quiet. I put volume to max, play settings to max and it doesn’t work. It is really quite frustrating, as usually when I need to plug in my headphones is just because I can’t make any more sound and I need to continue working, and not spend another hour tinkering with internal volume settings…
I have set all channels to max (+6.02), including the master output.
Dorico fortunately remembers the output and sticks to that.
This means that I can select my Macbook speakers as the main system output (selected in the status bar) and have Dorico playing audio through my headphone output (selected in Doricos “play” preferences).
This means that when I play audio from everywhere except Dorico it’s not blasting my external speakers (which needs to be set to a very high volume in order to hear what Dorico plays back).
