The problem is that the inserts section has to be expanded so much that the track view is almost non-existent, especially since the fader section cannot be constricted past a certain point, and one can’t move the insert section. (mind the “faserss” typo smh).
For Comparison, Here’s the same project in Cubase 13. Where all I had to do was press a button. (Mind the text on the program says cubase 14, but it is actually cubase 13 (hence the buttons to change the view), i just lazily pasted the picture over the other cubase 14 pictures.).
Exactly, the issues you are demonstrating are exactly why the previous Cubase 13 lower zone mixer minimalistic view with the button / tabs approach could be much more convenient and efficient for users and their workflow. Hence my suggestion located above in this thread as to why it should be re-implemented and also provided suggestions as to how to update and enhance it’s functionality.
There’s a multitude of different reasons as to why Cubase users may prefer the older Cubase 13 lower zone mixer design over the Cubase 14 lower zone mixer design and vice versa.
I don’t necessarily hate the new Cubase 14 lower zone mixer, I do think that Steinberg has done a great job on it, however I firmly believe that the previous Cubase 13 minimalistic lower zone mixer does need to be re-implemented to give users the option to choose what’s best for them and their workflow. There are many different circumstances where the Cubase 14 lower zone mixer design may not make sense for the user.
I agree completely. Literally everything else I have noticed that has changed or been implemented I have a positive view of. This is the only thing that has been a step backward for me, or at least a confused “why would they take out the option” view. It’s just terrible that it happens to be an extremely important change for my flow. A change on something I didn’t even know was such a huge part of my flow until it was changed ha. I seriously hope they come out with some way to fix it.
Yes it can be difficult to predict the disadvantages of changes until we see them in hindsight. Having access to the full mixer features in the lower zone sounds great on paper, and can be great for certain users. However I believe that the lower zones purpose was never intended to replace the role of the pop out / full sized windows of the editors and mixer etc. This is where we start to realize in hindsight how the sidebar button/tab design of the previous Cubase 13 minimalistic lower zone mixer served its purpose quite well for various different reasons. Hence this is why I think that it should be re-implemented alongside with the new Cubase 14 lower zone mixer design to give users the option to choose between the 2 different lower zone mixer designs. However I’m not exactly sure how difficult this kind of modular implementation approach would be in regards to programming / coding.
After about a month of using Cubase 14 and trying to use the lower window in the new way steinberg wants me to, I can only say that the lower window is useless to me now. I now have to use a second screen to be able to work, and it is still not the same. I want to like the new lower window, but alas I cannot. A decade of using the program in a specific way is very hard to overcome. Everytime I open a project it drives me insane that I now need a second screen to use the DAW I’ve been using for what seems like forever.
This is a reminder and a plea to PLEASE bring back the button on the lower screen mixconsole to change views, or please make it so I can shrink the faders in the lower screen enough to see the insert section without it taking up my whole screen. I’m still uterlly baffled by this decision, to the point of maddening frustration.
Yeah, I feel like if the user wanted that much information on the MixConsole at the same time than it would make more sense to open the full sized un-docked MixConsole window. I believe that the lower zone MixConsole was never intended to replace the full sized MixConsole window. In my opinion the previous sidebar tabbed design was more suitable and streamlined for the lower zone space allocation.
I think that if the previous sidebar tabbed design was updated to include a button (with a suitable icon) for all of the different MixConsole window layout options with the ability to click the buttons or to use the mouse wheel to scroll between them could be a nice idea.
I don’t mean this as a rant but as an earnest suggestion: Steinberg would do incredibly well to hire a new GUI team. They need people who understand that it’s always better to have a design that has the least amount of clicks and cursor movement possible, and that’s always clearly visible with labels/titles/etc.
I believe that a crucial aspect of the lower zone is being able to retain space in the Project Window. I like the idea of keeping both the previous and current lower zone MixConsole designs with some kind of preference / option for the user to be able to choose between them. That would be my solution.
For example:
Lower Zone MixConsole = Minimum / Maximum view
this is the best idea , @wavefunktion buttons in the left side to chose what you want to see in the lower zone , I think on notebooks is it a great workflow
Nice. Latest update v14.0.20 allows choosing to show or hide fader section, lower zone or full screen MixConsole. Your choice applies to whichever (MixConsole 1-4) instance you decide to open.
BUT…Why do we have now to define a key shorcut, or even worst, reach a menu to hide volume faders, when the old lower-zone mixer had direct controls for this…?
I don not understand this strange changes. They could just have rescued the old system, or just provided some direct acces as before.
Not so nice…
the next bad thing is that you can not blend in out the workbar in the top of the lower Zone Mixing console (in the green Box was a button in version 13 )
… that is so much space on laptop (red box)
… in version 13 it was so perfect !
… why they make things so unpractical?
